Laurie Senecal earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership with Principal Certification from Stephen F. Austin University and is a graduate of Southern Methodist University with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and Minor in Elementary Physical Education. She is an Academic Language Therapist trained in the Take Flight Program: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia and has a certification in English as a Second Language. Throughout her career she has participated in numerous continuing education programs, most notably, Daily Five Reading Academy, The Carnegie Learning National Math Institute, Teacher Learning Center of Teton Science Schools (in Jackson, Wyoming), Master Reading Teacher Academy, Love and Logic Facilitator Training, and Orton Gillingham Multi-Sensory Advanced Training. Laurie taught for 23 years in the Dallas Independent School District prior to coming to Dallas Academy. During her career in DISD, she served as the inclusion teacher for students in special education, deaf education, English as a Second Language, and Bilingual Education. Her teaching experiences include working with students in first through fifth grade as well as adult literacy.
Laurie joined the Dallas Academy family in 2012 as a teacher in the Lattner Lower School before moving into her position as Head of the Lower and Middle School.
Mrs. Senecal has lived in Dallas her entire life (over 50 years) and resides in Lake Highlands with her husband of 25 years and their two children, Will (21) and Keegan (19). Will is a senior at Oklahoma State University and an aspiring pilot. Keegan is a freshman at Kansas University studying business. Laurie enjoys traveling, outdoor activities, and spending time with her family and friends. She is honored to be part of the Dallas Academy family and excited to begin the new school year.
