Foundations Support Students of Dallas Academy

2015-16 Foundation Support Makes a Difference at Dallas Academy

A total of $224,000 contributed by foundations made a difference in the lives of Dallas Academy students as we helped students with learning disabilities reach their full academic potential. Grants from The Rees-Jones Foundation ($40,000.00), The Billie & Gillis Thomas Foundation ($30,000.00 and $11,000.00), The Hearing Foundation ($16,000.00), ORIX Foundation ($10,000.00), The Gayla & Mark Davis Fund ($5,000.00), and The WP and Bulah Luse Foundation ($5,000.00) helped make it possible for Dallas Academy to provide 54 tuition assistance scholarships to families who otherwise could not afford tuition this school year. Students receiving scholarships increased their ability to read and do math by one grade level, and will be promoted to the next grade. They increased or maintained high levels of organizing, teamwork, and other important life skills.

The growing number of scholarships has helped Dallas Academy accomplish a goal of bringing more ethnic and language diversity to our school. A portion of the ORIX Foundation grant, and a $5,000 grant from the Yanigan Fund of the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund helped us provide diversity awareness programming to teachers and students to help ensure that all students feel welcome and a sense of belonging at Dallas Academy.

The Hillcrest Foundation provided a crucial $50,000 grant to upgrade school security. The Lennox Fund of The Dallas Foundation gave $40,000 for general support. The Moody Foundation provided $5,000 for a wonderful therapeutic dance program that will continue into the 2016-17 school year. The Seay Foundation supported DA’s fine arts department with a grant of $5,000. ASCO gave $2,000 in support.

Dallas Academy staff, students, and parents are immensely grateful to these generous foundations, who understand the importance of providing students with learning disabilities the support they need to become successful learners and contributors in life. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
