The 5th annual Dallas Academy DAwg Run took place on Saturday, November 16th and drew a crowd of over three hundred people. The family-friendly day included a 5K race, 1 mile fun run, a pet costume contest, games, and fun on a bounce house. All of the proceeds from the day will benefit the students of Dallas Academy through scholarships, student services, and increased campus technology.
The day was full of activities including a 5K race timed by Run On! and a one mile fun run and pet walk. Landon Burdette of McKinney took home the top prize as the 5K overall winner with a race time of 18:38.40. Dallas Academy fourth grader Mercy Horton was the top 5K female finisher with a time of 25:17.33. To make the win even more special for Mercy, this was her first time ever competing in a race!
Over $5,000 in raffles, prizes, and coupons were awarded throughout the morning including the use of a Toyota Rav 4 for the weekend courtesy of Cowboy Toyota. Four legged friends were not forgotten; pets received goodie bags full of dog bones and treats.
This year’s event raised over $15,000 from event sponsorships and participant registration. All proceeds from the day will be used for student scholarships to help make Dallas Academy’s specialized education for learning different students a possibility for more local students. Additional funds will be used to update technology in the classroom. Dallas Academy is grateful to Legacy Texas Bank, who served as the lead sponsor this year, as well as the dozens of other local businesses and individuals for their generous support in making the event a huge success. Members of the Dallas Academy community enjoyed the DAwg Run so much that they are already busy planning next year’s event!
