Bulldogs Don’t Bully!
Dallas Academy is committed to providing a nurturing and safe environment for students to develop academically, socially, and emotionally. Dallas Academy has adopted the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program in the fall of 2010 to promote a more respectful school atmosphere.
Dallas Academy cares about the safety and well-being of each and every student. The goal of this program is to prevent bullying incidents on campus, to improve peer relations, and make the school a safer and more positive place for students to learn and develop.
The Olweus program is one of the best-known bullying prevention programs in the world with a proven track record of success. The Olweus program is multifaceted and will be implemented throughout campus, in the classroom, and on the individual level. Students will meet in small weekly groups with a faculty leader to discuss a variety of bullying scenarios. The program first teaches students to identify bullying situations and to feel empowered to tell an adult. Once the definition of bullying is understood, Dallas Academy will be able to address a wide-variety of topics pertinent to living a safe and satisfying life.
Dallas Academy’s four anti-bullying rules:
- We will not bully others
- We will try to help students that are being bullied
- We will try to include students that are left out
- If we know that someone is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and at home
In the fall of 2014, Dallas Academy chose to officially rename their campus chapter of the Olweus program and incorporate character education. The new program named STARRS (Service, Trustworthiness, Achievement, Respect, Responsibility and Support) highlights key character traits that will lead to student success, bully prevention and a positive school climate. Through the implementation of the Eleven Principles of Effective Character Education, Dallas Academy is committed to educating, inspiring and empowering students to be ethical and engaged citizens.
At Dallas Academy, we feel a safe and welcoming environment promotes academic success.
